KY reports 8,500 new COVID cases, 88 deaths between Friday, Monday

Kentucky health officials announced over 8,500 new COVID-19 cases and 88 deaths, including several people in their 20s, were reported on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The 8,571 new COVID cases reported raise the total number of cases diagnosed in Kentucky since the beginning of the pandemic to 658,231. Of the new cases, 2,214 (25.8 percent) were children 18-years-old and younger.

There have now been 8,339 COVID-related deaths in the state, with 434 deaths over the last 13 days (33.4 per day), and 244 over the last six days (40.7 per day).

Officials said 2,254 people are hospitalized, down 172 from Friday, with 654 patients in ICUs (including seven children), up seven from Friday. Patients on ventilators fell from 463 on Friday to 452 on Monday.

The positivity rate dropped from Friday’s 12.88 percent to 12.18 percent on Monday.
