About 4,100 new COVID cases, 44 deaths. Hospitalizations, ICU patients decreasing.

On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced 4,099 new COVID-19 cases were diagnosed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the number of COVID cases ever confirmed in the commonwealth to 670,084. Of the new cases, 1,093 (26.7 percent) were children 18 and younger.

Officials reported 44 deaths, giving the state 561 deaths over the last 16 days, 35 per day, and 371 over the last nine days, 41.2 per day. The new deaths raise Kentucky’s death toll to 8,466 (1.3 percent fatality rate).

Officials said 2,223 people were hospitalized, down 34 from Wednesday and down 64 since Tuesday. Officials said 625 patients were in ICUs, down 26 from Wednesday and 39 since Tuesday. Patients on ventilators fell 31 patients from Wednesday’s 453 to 424 on Thursday.

The positivity rate dropped from Wednesday’s 11.66 percent to 11.33 on Thursday.
