Grayson County High School has named Todd Johnston as the next head coach of the Lady Cougar basketball team.

Johnston retired following the end of the 2021 school year as Grayson County Schools’ Director of District-Wide Programs. Prior to the move to central office, he served as a principal and teacher at GCHS.

Also while at the high school, Johnston spent 12 seasons as the head coach of the Cougar boys team where he won a pair of regional titles and amassed a school-record 225 wins.

Prior to returning to Leitchfield in 2000, he served as a head coach at McLean County High School for two seasons. In his final year in Calhoun, he led the Cougars to a 14-14 record which was only their second .500 or better finish in over a decade.

Johnston will replace Ted Hill who resigned in June after two seasons at the helm of the program to return to Ohio County as their head coach.

Last season, the Lady Cougars finished the year with a 13-10 record and won their first 12th District championship since 2017.

The new head coach is married to Tracie, has one daughter, Halee, and three grandchildren. His nephew, Travis, is the head coach of the Cougar boys team.

The Lady Cougars will open the 2021/22 regular season on November 30 at home against Breckinridge County.
