Grayson County Health Department Director Josh Embry updated the county’s COVID-19 numbers on Wednesday afternoon.

Embry said 98 new cases of the virus have been diagnosed since Friday. The new cases give Grayson County 200 new cases since Tuesday, October 5 (25 per day), and 4,712 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Three newly confirmed COVID-related deaths were also announced by Embry, raising the confirmed death toll to 80. The health department is awaiting confirmation from state health officials on 15 suspected COVID deaths.

There are 214 active cases in the county, down from Friday’s 230. Ten people are hospitalized, with Embry saying, “Some of those people are very sick.”

The county’s incident rate stands at 65.4, up from Tuesday’s 58.4, and more than twice the rate of occurrence required to be considered a “red” county, indicating a “critical spread” of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.
