Over 8,000 new COVID cases, nearly 190 deaths since Saturday in Ky. Grayson Co. still has ‘critical spread’ of the virus.

Kentucky officials reported over 8,000 new COVID-19 cases since Saturday and nearly 190 deaths as an uptick in cases continue.

Those 8,174 cases bring to 777,858 the number of cases of the virus diagnosed in the commonwealth since the onset of the pandemic. The 189 new deaths raise Kentucky’s death toll to 10,795 (1.4 percent fatality rate).

Hospitalizations (818) are up 36 patients since Saturday, while the number of people in intensive care (204) is up six. The number of patients on ventilators (107) has risen by three people since Saturday.

The state’s incident rate, which had been hovering well below 30, is 32.62, as 85 counties are currently in the “red,” indicating a “critical spread” of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

Grayson County has an incident rate of 30.3 (firmly in the “red”), after the metric dropped below “red” status for three days last week.

Grayson County reported 11 new cases of the virus to state health officials on Wednesday. No new deaths were reported, leaving the county’s death toll at 99.

Bordering counties with the highest rate of COVID occurrence are Breckinridge County at 67, sixth highest in the state, and Ohio (42.3) and Butler (42.2) counties.
