Most new daily COVID cases in Ky. since October 1. Positivity rate, hospitalizations skyrocket. Nearly 90 deaths this week.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday reported the highest number of new COVID-19 cases since October 1, as the positivity rate continues to climb.

Beshear said 3,312 new COVID cases were diagnosed on Wednesday, the most since 4,118 cases were announced on October 1, and the first time the state has had over 3,000 new cases since October 1. This week, 6,813 cases have been reported.

The new cases raise to 789,225 the number of cases reported since the beginning of pandemic.

Officials announced 44 new COVID-related deaths on Wednesday, giving Kentucky 88 deaths between Monday and Wednesday. The commonwealth has now had 10,987 COVID deaths (1.4 percent fatality rate).

The positivity rate continues to increase, as the key metric checked in at 8.56 percent on Wednesday, up from 8.14 percent on Monday. Last Wednesday the positivity rate was 7.05 percent. On November 1, the positivity rate was 5.03 percent.

Hospitalizations have skyrocketed this week as well, as 943 people are currently hospitalized, up from Monday’s 859. Hospitalizations have risen by 125 patients over the last seven days.

The number of people in intensive care has gone up from Monday’s 241 to 249 on Wednesday, and patients on ventilators have increased from Monday’s 111 to 123 on Wednesday.
