In the first month of the COVID-19 vaccine being available for five- to 11-year-olds, more than 41,000 Kentucky children received at least a first dose.

U.S. health officials signed off on Pfizer’s kid-side COVID-19 shot in early November, expanding the vaccine rollout to children as young as five. Statistics from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services show 41,963 children between five and 11 have received the vaccine.

(Children receive a separate vaccine formulation denoted with an orange cap and receive it with a smaller needle.)

Kids between 12-and 17-years-old became eligible for the vaccination in May. In Kentucky, 153,696 children in that age group have been vaccinated.
