James Edward VanMeter, age 70, died unexpectedly, January 11, 2022, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 31, 1951, in Leitchfield to the late, Edward and Eula Mae Dennison VanMeter. He was a 1970 graduate of Leitchfield High School and received an associate degree from ECTC. He was a master electrician, HVAC technician and could fix anything. James was a loyal member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Peonia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Taylor, Charlie VanMeter, David VanMeter and Andy VanMeter and his ole’ buddy Mitchell Decker.

James married his high school sweetheart, Garnetta Lee Clemons and they celebrated 51 years together in October. He is also survived by three daughters, Paula VanMeter, Carla Jaggers (Terry Clay) and Laura Keown (Jeremy); three sisters, Ruth Decker, Mary VanMeter and Theresa Puckett; eleven grandkids; three step-grandkids; one step-great-granddaughter, Addie; one great-grandson, Hendrix Moon and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be held at 11 AM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Brandon Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Anthony Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM, Thursday and from 9 to 10:30 AM, Friday at the Rogers-Oller Funeral Home.

A prayer service will be held at 6 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the St. Paul Catholic School.
