Kindergarten Screenings Support Early Student Success
The BRIGANCE Screen was adopted by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) for all students entering kindergarten in 2013-14. This quick, easy, and accurate assessment of those skills most often cited as critical predictors of school success - physical development, language, academic/cognitive, self-help, and social-emotional – usually takes just 10 - 15 minutes per child. The results support learning at a developmentally appropriate level so students can get off on the right foot from the beginning of their school career.
Grayson County Schools will conduct a final round of screenings July 31 and August 1. If your child has not yet participated or been scheduled for their BRIGANCE testing, please contact your school counselor to schedule an appointment one of these dates.
School Meal Program Applications Currently Being Accepted
Grayson County Schools Food Service is now accepting Free or Reduced Price Meal Family Applications for the 2013-14 school year. The sooner applications are received and processed, the sooner students may be qualified, and an approval or denial letter mailed to parents. It is especially important for preschool, kindergarten, and students new to the district to complete the application prior to school starting. Applications are available at the Board of Education or at graysoncountyschools.com. Once completed they may be dropped off or mailed to Grayson County Board of Education, Attn: Food Service Office, 909 Brandenburg Road, P.O. Box 4009, Leitchfield, KY 42755.
