LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Metro Louisville Police say they have charged a man in a hit-and-run crash that killed a young boy.
Officials say 24-year-old Edward Pearce is charged with murder, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a controlled substance in the death of 5-year-old Benjamin Clem.
Police spokeswoman Carey Klain told The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1mjosqK) that the child was hit by a minivan Thursday evening while riding a scooter near his home. He was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital, but later died.
Witnesses took down the license plate of the vehicle, which led police to arrest Pearce.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Pearce has an attorney.
