Council members voted at Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting to amend an ordinance that requires the city attorney to reside in the Leitchfield city limits.

With City Attorney Denny Fentress retiring at the end of September, the move will allow the council “more options” as officials search for Fentress’ replacement.

Council members voted 5-0 to amend the ordinance.

In other city business, interim Police Chief David Riley asked for and received permission to sell two vehicles as surplus property; a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria and a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4×4.

The Ford’s mileage is “unreadable,” according to Riley, and it is currently only used as a spare vehicle. The Jeep was purchased from the state in 2008, and at that time had just over 100,000 miles logged on the odometer. Riley said the Jeep has a “large amount of rust in the body and rusty brake lines,” and is becoming unsafe to operate.

Both vehicles will be listed on govdeals.com.
