Despite receiving Narcan, Leitchfield man dies of apparent opiate overdose

Thursday night at approximately 7:45, the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, as well as EMS responded to the 100 block of Goff Drive on the report of an unresponsive male on the front porch of a residence.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found the male, 29-year-old Harry Barclay, of Leitchfield, not breathing due to an apparent opiate overdose. CPR was performed, with LPD Officer Eugene Cain, who arrived on the scene only seconds after being informed by dispatch, saying that he administered Barclay a four milligram dose of Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose.

After being treated at the scene for several minutes, Barclay was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by EMS, and was slated to be airlifted to a trauma center, but he was pronounced dead at the ER.

This overdose comes on the heels of LPD officers and EMS responding to a double-overdose on Penner Drive on February 10 involving two males. In that case, both men received Narcan from LPD officers and recovered.
