Fordsville traffic stop leads to arrest of 2 suspects accused of burglaries in Ohio, Breck counties

Two people suspected of committing burglaries in three counties have been arrested during a traffic stop in Fordsville.

According to Kentucky State Police, a trooper was patrolling Easton Road near Fordsville on Wednesday afternoon when he observed a Chevrolet Trail Blazer matching the description of an attempt to locate alert put out by Daviess County authorities related to the fraudulent use of a credit card.

The trooper observed the driver, 29-year-old Robert A. Simpson, of Hawesville, not using his seatbelt and conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:00 Wednesday afternoon. During a search of the vehicle, Simpson and a passenger, 27-year-old Kelsey Berry, also of Hawesville, troopers located stolen debit and social security cards, according to police.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at Simpson’s Hawesville residence where police said they “recovered a multitude of stolen property believed to be linked to burglaries in Daviess, Ohio and Breckinridge counties.”

Both suspects were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (under $10,000), theft (receipt of stolen credit cards), theft of identity of another without consent, receiving stolen property (under $500), and fraudulent use of credit card after stolen or lost (under $500).

Simpson was additionally charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon along with traffic-related charges.

Both suspects were lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center but are no longer listed as inmates.
