The Grayson County Public Library will host a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on Monday afternoon from 12:30 until 2:00.

For the first time since 1979, the continental United States will experience its first total solar eclipse, and the first “sea to sea” total solar eclipse since 1918. The Grayson County Public Library is inviting the community to bring a picnic lunch, chairs or blankets and gather outside of the library and watch the eclipse.

While supplies last, the library will provide special viewing glasses for those in attendance. There will also be activities for all ages and light refreshments will be served.

Additionally, the library will stream NASA’s live broadcast of the event inside the library building.

Grayson County Schools plan to make Solar Eclipse 2017 an unparalleled learning opportunity for students.

“While the event itself will be exciting, safety is the top priority for viewing,” said Caryn Lewis, GC Schools Public Information Officer. The district recently received protective solar viewers from Western Kentucky University for all students and staff to safely experience the event. The glasses are provided by Rainbow Symphony, one of the approved viewer providers, and meet ISO safety requirements.

Activities are currently in the works at all schools for students to enjoy and learn from this historical event.
