GCHS DECA sending 19 to Nationals

The national DECA theme for 2016 – 2017 has been “Own Your Future,” and GCHS DECA members took it to heart with outstanding performances at the group’s recent State Conference as 19 students qualified for Nationals (International Career Development Conference,ICDC) which will be held April 26 – 29 in Anaheim, California.
 
In competitive events, 1st place finishes included: Kevin Brackett, Business Services; Haley Dockery and Kaylee Embry, Learn and Earn; Dylan Geary, Public Relations Project; Chase Minton, Professional Selling, Marketing.
 
In 2nd Place: Mekenzie Ballard and Kenzie Snyder, Creative Marketing; Dayton Blair, Human Resources; Karson Clemons and Shanna McClung, Hospitality Team; Noah Cummings, Zach Lashley, and Haley Risinger, Community Service (MDA); Laura Higdon and Katie Mullins, Business Law and Ethics Team
 
3rd place: Ashley Clemons, Ethan Hayse, Shelbi Pendergest, Community Service (Autism); Robbie Hayes, Business Services Marketing;
 
Carson Zurmehly was an event finalist in the Professional Selling, Financial Consultant category.
 
Chapter President Ashley Clemons was recognized for her service to the 2016-17 state DECA Executive Council. Junior Ethan Hayse received the Outstanding Chapter Member award. Advisor Cynthia Smith was honored for her 30 years of service to the organization, and Tony Embry was recognized for five years of service.
 
The chapter received recognition as the fourth largest chapter in the state. Membership includes high school, alumni, and professional members.
