Friday afternoon the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene of an accident on Richland Road, in the Caneyville area near the Ohio County line. Deputy Robert Jackson has not released the accident report at the time but Grayson County Coroner Larry Holeman confirmed that a 66-year-old Caneyville man was killed in the one vehicle accident.
Saturday just after noon, the sheriff’s department was alerted of another accident that involved a motorcycle this time. The Leitchfield Fire Department was called to the scene along with Grayson County EMS. The accident was approximately at the 5000 block of Brandenburg Road.
Deputy Bryan Hammons said when he arrived on-scene Leitchfield Fire Chief Carl “Moon” Smith advised him that the operator of the motorcycle was deceased.
Murrell Carter (72) was driving his 2001 Chevrolet pickup northbound on Brandenburg Road when he noticed traffic in his path of travel was stopped. He said he was afraid he would not be able to stop and avoid colliding with the stopped vehicle and made a hasty decision. Carter decided to cross the center line and drive his truck off into the grass. Carter said he did not see the 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle headed southbound.
Hammons said Gregory M. Masterson (54 of Hudson, KY) was unable to avoid crashing into the passenger side of Carter’s truck. Masterson was reported to not be wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Carter was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries and was submitted to a blood alcohol test. Hammons said it is standard procedure to submit drivers involved in fatal accidents to BAL test. Hammons said this is not an indication that alcohol is suspected in the accident.
