James (Jim) Rodney Carter, age 68, of Cadiz, KY passed away Sunday (May 11, 2014) at the Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Jim was born on January 20, 1946 in the Falls of Rough area, the son of the late Aden and Bessie (Fentress) Carter. Jim attended grade school in Grayson County and high school in Breckinridge County. Jim continued to attend the University of Kentucky. After graduating and choosing to pursue a career in law he graduated from Chase Law School. He served as the Christian County Public Defender for ten years. After that Jim chose to go into Private practice in Hopkinsville. He had recently moved to Cadiz KY where he was semi-retired. In earlier years he served as an officer in the U.S. Army military police corps reaching the rank of captain (0-3). The preponderance of his military service was on the island of Okinawa, Japan. He traveled widely, was well read and was an interesting conversationalist. He was married briefly to Sherrie Warrick of Caneyville. This union was blessed with two children James R. Carter II and Jennifer Brandy Carter both of FL. He will be missed by all who knew him especially Pauline Longranger his lifelong special friend.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (May 15, 2014) at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Burial will be in the Lone Star Cemetery in Falls of Rough, KY.
