(LOUISVILLE, Ky) Jury deliberation will stretch into Friday in the case of an Illinois man at the center of an alleged multi-million dollar fraud conspiracy involving two universities.

Thomas Schroeder, of Port Byron, Ill., has pleaded not guilty to charges of mail fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to impede and impact the Internal Revenue Service.

The Courier-Journal reports that jurors in federal court in Louisville will go into a second day of deliberations on Friday.

Former University of Louisville education dean Robert Felner is serving 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in January to fraud and tax evasion

Federal prosecutors allege Felner and Schroeder used the Illinois-based National Center for Public Education and Prevention Inc., to defraud the University of Louisville and the University of Rhode Island, where Felner conducted research. Schroeder served as a grant-research aide to Felner from 2005 until spring 2008.
