(Wax, KY) – The celebration gets underway this weekend at the Moutardier recreation area of Nolin River Lake, as the Corps of Engineers will celebrate the lakes 50th birthday.
The day will correspond with the Friends of Nolin Annual Nolin Fest.
There will be an antique car/truck show beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until 2:00 p.m.
Food and craft vendors will be on the grounds beginning at 3:00 p.m., and free inflatable bouncers will help keep children entertained.
Entertainment for older attendees will be provided by the Jack Thomas Band, who is known for their high energy and "personalized to the event" sound. They are a soulful band performing classics from several decades and artists such as Stevie Wonder, Waylon Jennings, Jackson Browne, John Mayer, and Bill Withers.
Lead guitarist and vocalist Stefan Miller performs solos from Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix classics. Vocalist Harold Miller, piano man Bobby Hamilton and bass player/vocalist Dennis Haycraft bring many decades of experience to the band with drummer Jammey Bryant rounding out the band with his tireless energy. The band is formed by Grayson County natives.
A reception to honor the 50th Anniversary of the lake will be held at 6:30 p.m.
At dark, fireworks will light up the sky, finalizing the annual event, sponsored this year by Smitty City and hosted by the Friends of Nolin Lake.
The US Army Corps of Engineers will hold their annual Nolin Lake Clean-Up Campaign on Sept. 21, 2013, and invites anyone interested in helping clean-up the lake to participate.
