(PARKERS LAKE, Ky) A nonprofit group devoted to preserving forests and wildlife in Kentucky has obtained a conservation easement on an 83-acre farm that is home to some rare animal and plant species.
The Berea-based Kentucky National Land Trust says the property known as Good Spring Farm in McCreary County is the group's first conservation easement.
A conservation easement restricts the use of land, preventing development.
The trust said in a news release Thursday that the land is surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest and includes the highest concentration of state and federally designated rare species discovered in Kentucky during the last 30 years.
The land includes old growth forest, plantings of native grasses, trails and rock outcrops. It is owned by the Taylor family, who run a bed and breakfast on the property called the Farm House Inn.
