His announcement to retire was presented Monday evening to the Leitchfield City Council during an executive session. The council emerged with Glenn reading a letter that stated his desire to retire.
Glenn said after the meeting that it was a tough decision but it’s been a great experience and he’s worked with a lot of great people, but it’s time for him to move on.
Glenn said his real estate license may be his next work interest, but for now, he plans to “sit back and take it easy.”
The Leitchfield City Council will accept applications for the chief’s position until March 4, 2013. The primary position requirements are as follows:
Candidate should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and seven years of law enforcement experience, including two years of experience in a supervisory capacity, or Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration or Criminal Justice supplemented by five years of direct work experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Candidate should have successfully completed basic training and must complete required annual training. Candidate must also possess a valid drivers’ license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Candidate should possess the ability to organize, direct and evaluate the work of others; communicate effectively, and maintain effective working relationships with officers, employees and the general public. Candidate should also have the ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate all activities and programs of the police department; possess extensive knowledge of the federal, state and local laws and ordinances to protect individual rights, protect life and property, prevent and suppress crime and identify and apprehend criminal offenders; enforce policies and procedures; prepare and submit annual budget and approve all purchases for department; candidate must be able to attend meetings during evening hours and be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at all hours. As a condition of employment, final candidate must pass a drug test.
