Leitchfield Utlities Commission reports revenue of $176,000

Last night the Leitchfield Utilities Commission reported a system-wide $176,027.00 revenue over expenditures bottom line for the last six months of 2013 – Water revenue was $78, 292.00, while gas revenue was $150, 649.00. The sewer department posted a $48,480.00 loss.

It was also reported that Leitchfield Utilities and the Grayson County Water District have been unable to finalize an agreement on the wholesale water rate.

According to established procedure in setting the rate when there is a disagreement on what the rate should be, Leitchfield Utilities and the Grayson County Water District will jointly submit to the Public Service Commission that the two entities have been unable to come to an agreement.

The PSC will then supply the name of three professional engineers, registered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, who are knowledgeable in the establishment of wholesale water rates. One of the engineer’s names will be drawn out of a hat, establishing that engineer as an arbiter in the case.

Finally, it was agreed that the utilities commission would move forward in exploring whether or not to apply for a TVA Energy Savings Grant.

The first hurdle of the grant application process has been completed, and the commission granted permission for Leitchfield Utilities Commission attorney David B. Vickery to review the request for proposal, and then possibly give his authorization to advertise the need for a firm to assist in the grant application.

The Energy Savings Grant could be up to $100,000.00.
