Lions Taming Computers to Save Energy with WRECC Grant
Lawler’s Energy Team was recently awarded a $700 mini-grant from WRECC for energy efficiencies in the school. The team proposed a “Taming Computers” project using energy smart surge suppressors on all staff computers to conserve electricity. When the computer is shut down or goes into hibernation, so will any other device attached to it, which they estimate will conserve over 2500 kilowatt hours during the school year.
The team conducted a plug load study to get baseline numbers. They will conduct another study once the suppressors are installed, and compare the results to pre-installation levels. A brochure about their findings, with energy saving tips and ideas for students and their families will round out the project.
This is the third year the Energy Team has worked to find and create efficiencies at the school, saving thousands of dollars in energy costs.
