LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Louisville detective has been indicted in the shooting of an unarmed man he had pulled over while off-duty last year.
Police have said narcotics detective Chauncey Carthan shot 22-year-old Ishmael Gough (GOFF') last Sept. 4. Carthan has been on paid administrative leave since then.
The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1dTDWhv ) said a Jefferson County grand jury charged Carthan on Thursday with wanton endangerment, official misconduct and driving under the influence. He was cleared of the most serious charge, second-degree assault, but the wanton endangerment charge is a felony.
Carthan's attorney, Steve Schroering, said the detective maintains his innocence and is looking forward to having all the evidence presented to a jury.
Gough was shot in the thigh. Community activist Christopher 2X said Gough is going through physical rehab and that his leg is improving.
