Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter Three Years After Fatal Accident in Caneyville

(Leitchfield, KY) – A teenager accused of Murder pled guilty to an amended charge of Manslaughter Wednesday morning in Grayson County District Court.

 

Trevor Edwards, who is 20-years-old now, was only 17 when the accident occurred; an accident that injured three and killed one man.  To read our coverage of the original accident, click here.

         

Edwards was found to be intoxicated when the head-on collision occurred on Watershed Road, April 21, 2009.  The accident killed 65-year-old Henry Cassey.  Two toddlers and Elmer Stewart, Jr. were flown to a Louisville hospital with serious injuries.

 

Edwards was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence – Less than 21-Years-Old, Murder, Assault - 1st Degree (4 Counts) and Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree. 

 

The Jury Trial was scheduled for Wednesday, February 01, 2012 but Edwards decided to plead guilty to amended charges. 

 

Commonwealth Attorney Tim Coleman represented the Commonwealth.  Edwards charges were amended to Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence – Less than 21-Years-Old, Manslaughter - 2nd degree, Assault – 2nd Degree (4 Counts) and the Criminal Mischief charge was dismissed.

 

Edwards recommended sentence is six years incarcerated with a $100 fine.  The Commonwealth Attorney opposed any recommendation regarding probation, according to court documents. 

 

Edwards is scheduled for formal sentencing on February 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.  Circuit Clerk Elois Downs says Edwards can withdraw his plea at any time before the formal sentencing date.
