The mother of a man accused of driving his car into a crowd of peaceful protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia says that she and her son recently moved from Florence to the Toledo, Ohio area.

Samantha Bloom, of Maumee, Ohio, confirmed details about 20-year-old James Alex Fields' trip to Virginia, saying she received a text from him last week that said he was going to a rally, according to a report by The Associated Press.

She said Fields did not offer details about the rally.

Charlottesville Police say Fields is charged with second-degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and one count related to leaving the scene after he plowed his Dodge Challenger into the protestors at a white supremacist rally, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring 19 others.

Fields attended Cooper High School in Boone County, where one of Fields’ teachers told media outlets that he had “outlandish, very radical beliefs,” and had a “fondness for Adolph Hitler.”
