(Leitchfield, KY) – The Grayson County Fiscal Court signed a proclamation Thursday, May 9, 2013, declaring May 9th as Ms. Georgia Patterson Day in Grayson County. The recommendation came by way of Magistrate Harold Johnson, but all members quickly agreed they wanted to do something within their powers to honor the 100-year-old teacher who helped shape education in Grayson County, beginning her teaching career in a one roomed school before becoming a well-respected 2nd grade teacher at Clarkson Elementary School, teaching for a total of 47 years.
Magistrate Johnson said she was his 2nd grade teacher and kept a stern rule over her class. Magistrate Bill Skaggs said, “She taught me respect. I learned how to respect adults, which is something that is lost today.”
Patterson was a member of Clarkson Baptist Church and is survived by multiple nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
