Mayor William Thomason presented Leitchfield native and professional fiddle player Jimmy Mattingly with a Key to the City on Saturday afternoon at the Twin Lakes National Fiddle Festival.
“I just felt that with him coming back to our community after he’s done what he’s done (professionally); that we should recognize this individual for what he’s done in his career,” Thomason said. “And he did help us tremendously by him coming and making him presence known. The crowd was overwhelmed by Jimmy coming back to the community and I felt he deserved a Key to the City.”
Mattingly has played fiddle for and toured with the likes of Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre and other great country music artists.
“He is currently set to tour again with Garth Brooks and was kind enough to come home and perform and visit with the attendees at the festival,” said Harold Miller, one of the organizers of the Festival. “Jimmy is one of the most respected musicians in the business.”
