School Board recognizes programs, Anderson says moving to new building possible soon

At Thursday night’s School Board meeting, Chairwoman Carolyn Thomason said that she appreciated the great events which were put on by the schools in preparation for the new academic year. In particular, she noted the middle school’s Sixth Sense and high school’s Freshman Focus transition programs.

Thomason also said that the district will host a booth showcasing local schools and students at the upcoming Grayson County Fair to be held August 26 – 30.

Superintendent Barry Anderson stated that final touches were being made to the Central Office building and that his staff could move into the new facility in the next few weeks. Anderson also noted that reducing the number of fundraisers this school year is a focus, in accordance with School Board wishes.

Finance Officer Kerry White presented the Board with the unaudited 2014 Annual Financing Report which finds the district on sound financial footing.

Finally, the Board approved the 2014-2015 School Board meeting calendar. All meetings will be held on the second Thursday of the month the exception of the October and April meetings which fall in the fall and springs breaks.
