Representative Tim Moore, a Republican from Elizabethtown and Colonel in the United States Air Force, has been awarded the Charles Dick Medal of Merit by the National Guard Association of the U.S.

Moore, who served in the Kentucky Air National Guard for over a decade and remains the only Kentucky legislator still serving in uniform, is one of just five individuals in the United States to receive this award.

“It is an honor for me to be one of just a handful of public servants nationwide to be recognized by this outstanding organization,” said Rep. Moore, who serves as chairman of the House Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection. “In my role as chairman of a committee dealing with veteran’s issues, I’ve been able to play an active role in promoting policies that provide better care and opportunities to the brave heroes who have served our country. Further, as a veteran and former guardsman myself, it is humbling for me to be bestowed with this award.”

The award is given to a select group of state and federal legislators who have made a significant contribution to the goals of the National Guard through public service, and whose actions have had a lasting effect on the future of the National Guard. Established in 1988, the medal is named in honor of Major General Charles Dick, a major general in the Ohio National Guard who went on to serve in the U.S. House and Senate.

"Colonel Moore is a superior example of service before self in both the military and civilian sectors,” said Maj. Gen. Stephen Hogan, Adjutant General of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, who nominated Moore for the award. “He not only has taken a direct role in defending freedom as a combat veteran and a career officer in the United States Air Force, but has also exhibited extraordinary effort in defending the rights of military members while serving in the state legislature."

General Hogan serves as the Commanding General of the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard, as well as Executive Director of the Department of Military Affairs. As a member of the Governor’s Cabinet, Hogan serves as Governor Bevin’s top adviser on military affairs.

“I look forward to continuing to honor and serve the 331,000 Kentuckians who are military veterans,” added Chairman Moore. “My colleagues in the House and Senate have demonstrated a strong desire to fulfill Governor Bevin’s pledge to make Kentucky the leading state in the nation for military and veteran-friendly policies.”

Moore represents House District 18 in the General Assembly, which consists of Grayson and part of Hardin County. He was selected to chair the House Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection upon Republicans taking over the House of Representatives in 2017.
