Three Year Olds Run for the Roses
(Leitchfield, KY) – It’s an annual event, not as old as the Kentucky Derby itself, but none-the-less as important when you’re three years old.
Mrs. Shelia Hack has been teaching her three-year-old classes about the Kentucky Derby through stick horse races for years, decades possibly, at Leitchfield Christian Academy.
Each child gets to color their horse heads before attaching the cutout to a yardstick that has been embellished with the name of a real Kentucky Derby entry.
The children gather outside and take turns in pairs of two or three racing the course outlined by Hack.
At the end of the races each child gets a paper rose stapled to their stick horse to show their efforts in the Run for the Roses.
