(Leitchfield, KY) – Two people were injured during an accident on the William Thomason Byway in Leitchfield Tuesday just before noon.
Leitchfield Police Officer Tim Moutardier reported conflicting statements from the drivers and witnesses who were on-scene.
Tammy Meredith (53 of Leitchfield) reported she was traveling east on Salt River Road when she stopped at the intersection, looking both ways before proceeding, not seeing any oncoming traffic. Meredith said half way through the intersection her 2002 GM Envoy XL was struck in the back door on the passenger side.
Striking the GM Envoy was a 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by James B. Thorpe (45 of Cave City) who was traveling north on the William Thomason Byway.
A witness on-scene who was traveling behind Thorpe said he noticed Meredith traveling east on Salt River Road but stated she never slowed down before traveling into the intersection.
Two other witnesses who were traveling behind Meredith said they were traveling west on Salt River Road and Meredith did stop at the stop sign before driving into the intersection.
Both drivers were transported to the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries by Grayson County EMS.
