Weather causes havoc in Grayson County

The ice storm that hit Grayson and surrounding counties last night and early Wednesday was responsible for power outages throughout central Kentucky. A water main break in Caneyville, possibly due to the extreme cold weather, also plagued some Grayson County residents.

Warren Rural Electric reported nearly 1,000 of its customers without power during the morning hours, a number which steadily decreased as the morning progressed thanks to the diligence and hard work of Warren RECC crews.

As of 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, power had been restored to all WRECC customers. But a reminder from the company notes that falling tree limbs and ice build-up on electrical lines could precipitate further outages. In all, nearly 70,000 Kentuckians were without power at some point on Wednesday.

If an outage occurs in your area, please stay away from the downed line and immediately call 1-888-604-4321.

Also, Wednesday afternoon a water main break occurred on Hwy. 79 North in Caneyville. About 120 customers were without water for approximatey two hours. Those who were without water are reminded that a boil water advisory is in effect until officials give the all-clear for normal water usage.

Those with questions about the Caneyville boil water advisory please call (270) 879-9701.
