Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson said he was paged to the scene at 2:25pm. Hudson said when he arrived on-scene he found a Jeep Cherokee turned on the passenger side with the drivers body trapped underneath.
Hudson said Grayson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Willen is investigating the accident and his office is investigating the death.
Hudson said 65-year-old Joseph Leo Mudd (Leitchfield) was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45pm and is believed to have died instantly from his injuries. Hudson said at this time it is not believed that Mudd was wearing his seatbelt since he was ejected from the vehicle.
Mudd was a well known speaker against alcohol and drugs to mainly an audience of high school students with his witness accounts from his days served as a Kentucky State Trooper and Detective. Mudd also served his county in the United States Marine. He was also the creator of Wuz, a cartoon character and the author of ‘The Blue Light Special: An Arresting Collection of Humorous Police Stories’ which was published in January 1999.
