The Leitchfield Womans Club recently provided local fourth graders a rare treat -- an operatic performance of Pinocchio. The four-member Schmidt Opera Outreach Program troupe from the UK Opera Theater dazzled, as they sang their way through the tale of the boy who learned the hard way to tell the truth.
With multiple costume changes, kid-friendly culture references and lots of energy, the actors thoroughly entertained, and polite shouts of "Bravo" quickly became the norm. A question and answer with the players afterward stretched for some time as student were eager to learn about all aspects of the play.
The performance was sponsored by the Womans Club at no cost to students or school as part of one of their many community service projects – Project HELP - to allow area children an opportunity to enjoy the arts.
