I understand that the news and such are under the Twin Lakes Times payment plan, but I don't quite understand the reasoning for the community to have to pay to see local weather cancellations. Weather cancellation information is important to the entire area, and shouldn't be limited to only being available to the people who pay for the Twin Lakes Times. I imagine this would also help alleviate many calls to K105 at 7:00am, with kids asking if school is canceled or not.

I suppose I'm just curious as to why the weather cancellations are pay only.

The school system is using the One-Call system these days, so the radio station is probably not getting very many calls about school cancellations. As far as your question, I don't really see how cancellations are any different from other news. It's all important.

I suppose I just see the news as actual coverage, while cancellations are items phoned-in to the station to aid area citizens. I just expect weather cancellations to be more of a community service.

And, as for the school closings, I had no idea about the one-call system. I'm sure it has been helpful! I guess it is new this year? Neat.

I see your point about the difference between news coverage and cancellations. I hadn't thought of it that way.

The One-Call system is new to the school district this year. The schools and/or the district are able to make recorded calls to send out to every student's home in the district or to any of a large number of sub-groups such as the middle school girl's basketball team or the high school band. It has been a very good communications tool for everything from cancellations to meeting announcements. Overall, this has gotten very good feedback.
