(Leitchfield, KY)- Just before 7:00pm Thursday evening a Choir Performance at the Grayson County Middle School was cut short after a man was stabbed. Witnesses say a gentleman who appeared to be intoxicated or incapacitated in some way is responsible for the stabbing.
Lisa McCombs said her family attended the concert to watch her child perform when the perpetrator came into the concert late. She said he sat down in front of her and her 4-year-old child and the man smelled of liquor. She said he was being loud and was asked by one woman to please be quiet. She said he moved down one seat and began harassing the man in front of him and then jumped up and stabbed the victim and then proceeded to run out of the school.
McCombs said the victim was bleeding and began to ask for help.
She said the Leitchfield Police Department took witness statements and proceeded to take pictures of the blood soiled floor.
Leitchfield Police Captain Todd Cave said the situation is under investigation and the suspected perpetrator, Robert Toms (47), was arrest just after midnight Friday morning. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Department had received a tip of Tomes’ whereabouts. He was found hiding behind a bed at a home in Ambassador’s Shores, according to the sheriff’s department.
The victim Steven Paul was stabbed with a knife in the back, according to Cave. He said his condition is unknown at this time.
Toms was charged with First Degree Assault and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Cave said this may be the only assault at a Grayson County School that he is aware of. Cave said Officer Braxton Allen is the questioning officer and has not released any other details at this time.
