(Leitchfield, KY)-Local character and legend Mr. E. E. McGhee has been a part of Grayson County School’s history for the past 50 years and has always been known to be a spirit leader, but this week Mr. McGhee is dealing with devastating news concerning his grandchild.
Sunday, Mr. McGhee’s family received the news that his 18-year-old grandson, Private First Class Justin McGhee, had been seriously injured in Afghanistan. From the information Mr. McGhee has been given by his son Earl, Justin’s father, a roadside bomb detonated in front of the vehicle Justin was riding atop of while on patrol. He said the military vehicle overturned and pinned Justin underneath, causing serious injuries to his legs and arms and “a lot” of shrapnel.
The information the family has been given has been limited at this time. Justin has been awarded a purple heart. An emotional McGhee said his son Earl has served in the US Army for 23 years and his son Justin always carried the dream of following in his father’s footsteps and serving his country. He said Justin had not been stationed in Afghanistan very long before he was injured.
Justin McGhee is a resident of Jeffersonville, IN where he graduated high school. McGhee said his son Earl is a graduate of Grayson County High School, class of 1983.
