(BIG CLIFTY, KY) – A sleeping semi-truck driver awoke just in time to spot a Chevrolet S-10 pulling away with contents of his tractor-trailer.
The driver, who was parked at the Dollar General Store in Big Clifty, was awaiting for the store to open so he could unload the contents of his truck.
The operator of the Chevrolet S-10 backed the vehicle up to a tractor-trailer, cut the seal on the trailer and stole approximately $1,000.00 in merchandise.
Just before 5:30 a.m., the driver called the Kentucky State Police Post #4 to report the incident.
Trooper Brad Riley just happened to be in the right place at the right time and was able to intercept the pickup truck at the intersection of Old Leitchfield Road and Elizabethtown Road in Hardin County, just five minutes after the call was given out to officers.
Tracey J. Hart (36) of Hardin County was arrested without incident and charged with Careless Driving, Failure to Wear Seatbelt, DUI - 1st Offense, No Insurance - 1st Offense, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (brass knuckles), and Receiving Stolen Property Under $10,000.00. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
All merchandise was returned to the Dollar General Store with additional items located at Hart’s residence.
Tpr. Riley was assisted by Tpr. Scott Rafferty, Tpr. D. Kelly and Grayson County Deputy Adam Cottrell. The investigation is ongoing.
