School Bus Driver Sentenced In DUI Case

MORGANTOWN, Ky. (AP) - A former south-central Kentucky school bus driver has been sentenced to five years in prison after admitting that she was intoxicated while children were aboard.

The Daily News reports Butler County Circuit Judge Ronnie Dortch handed down the sentence on Tuesday to 55 year-old Sandra Ford of Morgantown, who had previously pled guilty to drunken driving and 59 counts of wanton endangerment.

Although Ford's attorney asked for probation for his client, Dortch said he felt that was too lenient.

Ford was arrested last spring when students complained after getting off the bus that the driver was acting funny and appeared drunk.

Authorities immediately located the bus, removed Ford and administered field sobriety tests.

Police say her blood-alcohol content measured 0.1, which is above the legal limit.
