Teen Hides As Burglar Enters House

(Caneyville, KY) – The Grayson County Sheriff’s Department says they are aggressively working a burglary that left a teenager hiding in the closet, texting a parent.

Chief Deputy Tony Willen said the perpetrator pried open the door of the home of Danisa Edens in the Caneyville area.  The teenager quickly hid in a closet and began to text the mother that someone was inside the home.

Edens immediately contacted her mother, Joanne Geary, who lives across the road.  Geary made her way to her daughter’s home where she saw a dark green passenger car sitting in the driveway with a man sitting in the passenger seat.  The man is described as having a very dark complexion with short dark hair and an earring in his left ear.

When Geary confronted the man he stated he was there to make a purchase.  Willen said Geary noticed the side door open and she made her way into the home where she saw another man with an arm full of items.

He told her not to call the police and threw the items towards her, hitting her in the head with a laptop computer.

The man is described as thin with red hair and in his mid-20’s.  He ran out the door where the green car was already pulling out of the driveway.  The man was able to make his way into the car and the two suspects drove away.

Geary’s injury was minor and the teenager went undiscovered by the perpetrator, according to Willen.

The call to Central Dispatch was received Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2013, at 10:03 a.m.
