LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Derby Festival is using social media to encourage the University of Louisville men's and women's basketball teams to be grand marshals for the festival's Pegasus Parade next month.
The men's team won the NCAA national championship Monday night, beating Michigan 82-76. The women made it to the championship game Tuesday night before losing to Connecticut.
The Derby Festival asked followers on Twitter and Facebook to retweet and share postings asking the Cardinals to be grand marshals for the May 2 parade in downtown Louisville.
Festival President and CEO Mike Berry said no grand marshal has been selected yet for this year and that the idea to invite the Cardinals has been around but that nobody wanted to jinx the teams' tournament chances by issuing an invitation before now.
