Chester Allen Mayes Sr, 88, passed away on March 28th, 2013 in Portland, Texas. He was born on July 28th, 1924 in Vanderpool, Texas to the late William Leonard Mayes and Emily Ann Ivy Mayes.
Chester was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aransas Pass, Texas where he served as a Deacon. He retired from the old Standard Gravure Corporation of Louisville, Kentucky and was a member of the Photo Engraver’s Union. Chester also served his country honorably and was an Army Veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Maline Briggs, Agnes Farris and Elva Roberts; and brothers, Joel Mayes, Gerald Mayes and Sterling Mayes.
He is survived by his wife, Mary W. Mayes of Aransas Pass, Texas; son C. Allen Mayes Jr (Carol) of Buckner, KY; daughters Andrea Miller (Bob) of Ormond Beach, FL and Donna Odom (Jimmy) of Somerset, KY; step-son Gary Beatty (Charlene) of Bowling Green, KY; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Cremation was chosen with a Memorial Service being held at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Saturday, April 13th at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday.
