Large power outage hits downtown Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Thousands of Lexington utility customers spent the night without power after a strong thunderstorm struck on Tuesday afternoon.

WLEX-TV (http://bit.ly/ZZKosp ) reported more than 5,000 customers were still without electricity at dawn on Wednesday. The power failed at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Affected areas include downtown and the Versailles Road corridor into the Cardinal Valley neighborhood.

The Fayette County Health Department announced it would not open until 10 a.m. Wednesday because of the outage
