When Savanna Higdon started reading for the Clarkson 5th grade AR (Accelerated Reader) Challenge, she was simply doing something she enjoyed and helping her class. About halfway through the year, she realized that a 1,000-point goal wasn’t out of the question, and on the Friday before school was out, she reached that remarkable milestone. Savanna obviously likes to read, especially “fantasy, like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson,” and has already decided she wants to be a book critic when she grows up. Teacher Tonya Hill praised Savanna’s hard work, crediting her as inspiration for another classroom project. “Take a Look at My Book” is a series of student-scripted and produced podcasts about their favorite books.
