Leitchfield Police Department completes ‘Click It or Ticket’ crackdown to save lives and boost seat belt use

(Leitchfield, KY) – After a 14-day enforcement mobilization, the 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign comes to an end. But don’t be fooled, law enforcement agencies aren’t letting up on seat belt violators now. With the support of law enforcement officers, highway safety officials and safety advocates across the country, the recent mobilization saved thousands of lives across the nation by cracking down on those who are not buckling up—day and night.

Leitchfield Police Department announced that 127 seat belt citations and 2 felony arrests were made during the Click It or Ticket mobilization to encourage more Leitchfield/Grayson drivers and passengers to always buckle-up.

“A majority of people have gotten the message, but many have not. Tragic crashes can and do happen every day,” said Chief Kevin Henderson. “Our job is to save lives, and we want everyone to have the best chance of surviving a fatal crash—by always buckling up.”

There were 746 total highway fatalities in Kentucky in 2012, with 592 killed in motor vehicles.  Of those 5592 fatalities, 62.5 percent were not wearing a seat belt.
“Leitchfield Police Department is proud to have supported the 2013 Click It or Ticket mobilization – a highly visible national enforcement crackdown created to save more lives on our roadways,” said Chief Henderson. “Both during day and also at night, our stepped-up enforcement showed Leitchfield/Grayson how important it really is to always buckle up on our roadways.”

“The annual Click it or Ticket mobilization may be over, but that is no excuse to stop using your seat belt,” added Chief Henderson. Don’t forget to wear your seat belt and please encourage those around you to always do the same.”
