RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Richmond police say more than 200 gravestones were overturned and damaged in a case that's similar to another round of vandalism two years ago.
Assistant police chief Bob Mott tells the Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/10TkpIC ) that most of the vandalized gravestones at Richmond Cemetery were just overturned, but some were heavily damaged. Police say the vandalism occurred sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday.
Mott says police and the cemetery are tallying the damage. He says some gravestones date back to the 1800s.
The vandalism follows a similar case in 2010, when more than 100 gravestones were overturned at the cemetery near downtown Richmond.
In that case, three people were found guilty of charges related to the vandalism.
