(Leitchfield, KY) – A woman and her younger boyfriend were traveling the Western Kentucky Parkway Friday, July 5, 2013, when Grayson County Sheriff’s Detective Jeff Kelsey said the woman was raped.
Detective Kelsey was in the Caneyville area working 3rd shift when he received a call there was a motorist assist in the median around the 102 mm.
Kelsey said on his way he saw a car headed towards him traveling the wrong way; the vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane.
Kelsey stopped the vehicle and realized this was the same car he was headed to assist.
The driver, an unnamed 43 year old woman, said her passenger, William Cook (28), had been arguing with her and trying to “wreck her car” by grabbing the steering wheel and trying to force the car towards semi-trucks; forcing the car into the median of the roadway and into the opposite lane of traffic. She said she was headed to the KSP Post on the WK Parkway.
The woman said she and Cook were from Pikeville and were headed to Eddyville State Penitentiary to visit her son.
Cook was under the influence, according to Kelsey, and was arrested for multiple outstanding bench warrants from Pike County. Kelsey said Cook has a history of theft and assault.
The woman was found to be sober and was redirected and sent on her way to visit her son.
Later Friday, Kelsey said Sheriff Rick Clemons called him into work saying the woman was there to report Cook had raped her.
Through the investigation, the woman said Cook forced the car off of the roadway around the 118 mm and held a knife to her throat and raped her. She said she reached into the back seat of the car and found a stick and tried to defend herself with the item.
Kelsey also learned that she did not leave Leitchfield after he spoke with her on the WK Parkway earlier that morning. She said she turned around and sat at a Leitchfield gas station and called a friend, who brought her to the GCSO.
The woman said Cook drank bleach and vomited after the rape, claiming to “clean himself out.”
Kelsey said she consented to a search of her car, which Kelsey said looked as if she may be living out of. A black Harley Davidson knife, a stick and broken console pieces were found. He said she claimed Cook punched the console, causing damage.
Deputies searched the area around the 118 mm and found a bottle of bleach and vomit.
Cook was charged with Rape, 1st Degree and Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree in Grayson County District Court this week, and is lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
