James Patrick Alvey, age 87 of Leitchfield, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield. He was born March 14, 1926 in Wax, Kentucky, the son of James Benny & Amy Alvey.
James traveled this land for 87 years, touching the lives of many friends and family. He was a retired dairy, tobacco, and hay farmer and also retired from Pro Group. James served briefly in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received an honorable discharge.
James is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nellie Higdon-Alvey, seven children, Gail DeJarnette, Steve Alvey (Cindy), Brent Alvey (Beth), Karen Mudd (Terry), Lisa Childress (Ken), Ricky Alvey (his fiancé, Sarah), & Patty Sue Goins (Eric), one sister, Estel McDonald, one brother, Gene Alvey, fifteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Aileen Kerr, Dorothy Smith, & Carrie Hartley, and one brother, Irvin Alvey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, (July 20, 2013) at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. that evening, and from 8:30 until service time on Saturday at the Watson & Hunt Funeral Chapel in Leitchfield.
