Master Gardeners Help Kindergarten Pick a Healthy Harvest
Wilkey kindergartners recently got to experience freshly grown vegetables from the school’s garden planted and maintained by the Grayson County Master Gardeners/UK Extension Service. Students were delighted with the opportunity to pick some of their favorites, and occasionally surprised by where some things – like potatoes and carrots - come from. Bags were filled with excitement at the thought of sharing the tasty treats with their families and friends.
The Master Gardeners have planted and maintained the garden for the past several years to promote healthy nutrition to students at an early age. Each fall and spring Wilkey kindergartners are introduced to planting, harvesting, and taste sampling the healthy options provided by the garden.
